SWFL hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30. After Hurricane Ian (2022), we learned which preparations actually save homes and which don't matter. This list reflects what we now recommend to every Lee, Collier, and Charlotte County client.
Property prep (do by May 25)
- Tree trim — anything within 10ft of the house
- Gutter clean + downspout extension check
- Roof inspection (visual + roof penetration check)
- Hurricane shutters / impact window confirmation
- Garage door rated for wind load (not assumed — check the sticker)
Insurance prep (do by June 1)
- Walk through every room with a video — full inventory
- Confirm flood policy is active (separate from homeowner policy)
- Save policy + agent contact in cloud storage, not just on your phone
- Confirm your insurance company has your current email + phone
Emergency kit (do by June 1)
- 2 weeks of water (1 gallon per person per day)
- Non-perishable food (canned, no-cook)
- Battery + crank radio
- Cash (ATMs go down for days)
- Prescription medications — 30 day supply
Our crew dispatches from Cape Coral and Bonita Springs — both inside the storm zone — so we can be on site fast when it matters.
